USA Bee Kidz Pageant to raise funds for toddler's surgery
Article Launched: 04/19/2007 11:00:00 PM PDT
USA Bee Kidz Pageant will host the first annual "Walk a Mile for Hayley's Smile" event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Red Hill Park, 7484 Vineyard Ave., Rancho Cucamonga. Look for the yellow balloons at the south end of the park at shelters D and E. Proceeds from the walk will help pay for surgery for Hayley Brang, a toddler who has a condition called Moebius Syndrome, a rare developmental disorder present at birth that is characterized by facial paralysis. Affected individuals are not able to smile or frown because two important nerves, the sixth and seventh cranial nerves are absent or not fully developed. The Walk will feature the crowing of Hayley as the official honorary Queen Bee, a bake sale, face painting, carnival games, smiley face balloons, food provided by Chick-fil-A and more. For information, please contact Jenny Lee, USA Bee Kidz Director, (909) 214-3762 or usabeekids@gmail.com. -

A day spent at the park, all for a smile Walk raises money for surgery to fix little girl's facial paralysis

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - More than 200 people showed up at Red Hill Park on Saturday in hopes of making a 2-year-old girl smile. Hayley Brang of Claremont was diagnosed at birth with Mobius syndrome, a form of facial paralysis that does not allow her mouth to close. The affected nerves control eye movement and facial expressions, making it hard for her to smile or move her eyes from side to side. But friends, family members and strangers were trying to change that as they participated in Walk a Mile for Hayley's Smile, a fundraiser organized by USA Bee Kidz Pageant to help with the corrective surgery. "I had this little fire in my belly, and everybody I talked to got that same fire to help Hayley," said Nicki Henne, organizer of the event. "Everyone wanted to help a little girl smile." Henne said participants found their own sponsors, then came to the park to walk, play games, win prizes, meet Hayley and socialize with other families. Henne, of Rancho Cucamonga, is a volunteer for the pageant, which performs charity work and community service.

Walk a Mile for Haley's Smile More than 200 people showed up at Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday in hopes of making a 2-year-old girl smile. Hayley cannot speak and has to use sign language to communicate with her mother, father and 1-year-old sister, Ashley. But the blond-haired Hayley loves to eat, dance and interact with people. "She loves to give hugs and kisses," said her mother, Heather Brang, 25. A surgery that will correct Hayley's cranial nerves by removing a muscle from her thigh and implanting it into her cheeks is a possibility the family is looking into. But it is costly. "I just saw an article about a girl who had (the surgery) done about 10 years ago, and it cost $70,000 then," Brang said. Hayley will not be able to receive the surgery until she is 5 years old because the risks are much greater for younger children. Brang said the family has about $10,000 saved for the surgery, but are hoping Saturday's event will help with the remaining costs. "It's unbelievable," Heather said. "This is one of the most wonderful feelings as a parent, to see this many people support you." During the event a number of donations came in, including $500 from the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department and $5,000 from Ekstrand Elementary School in San Dimas, which has been recycling cans and bottles since October for Hayley. Five-year-old Avery Echagarruga of Rancho Cucamonga raised $475 on her own to help Hayley. "I got some money and then I asked other people and friends and family (to give money)," Avery said. Saturday, 07 July 07 - 06:18 PM (GMT) The USA Bee Kidz pageant, created by a mom, nutrition specialist, inventor and former Mrs. California-America, is the only children's pageant in the world that prides itself on volunteer work and actually penalizes kids that compete in make up and glitzy dresses, proudly presents their new program 'Kidz Bee-ing Healthy!' 'Kidz Bee-ing Healthy' program will provide kids with healthy snack recipe ideas, products and message on the importance of living a healthier lifestyle, to kids by kids. With approximately 30.3 percent of children (ages 6 to 11) are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese in America the Bee Kidz have decided to take action. The USA Bee Kidz Pageant is an all natural kids pageant that encourages boys and girls to act, look and bee themselves! This one of kind pageant tries to send the message to the youth that "life is more than the crown but what you do with it after was that matters." USA Bee Kids at the age of 2, for example, have done far more community service events than most adults have done in their lifetime. To me ones success is not measured on how much money I make but instead it is measured in how many lives I have helped today!
Chino Hills, CA July 7, 2007 -- Founded by a former Mrs. California-America, the USA Bee Kidz pageant is a children's pageant unlike any other. This innovative pageant, with its no make up tolerance rule, is introducing a new program called 'Kidz Bee-ing Healthy' where proceeds of their healthy snack cookbook and Bee-Z Snack Shop product, invented by the USA bee Kidz pageant founder, Jenny Lee, will be used to buy healthy snacks for low income neighborhoods. With approximately 30.3 percent of children (ages 6 to 11) are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese in America, the Bee Kidz have decided to take action. The USA Bee Kids compete without any make up or fancy attire. In fact, this is the only pageant of its kind where a teen won, not in her fancy dress, but in her motorcross outfit! The USA Bee Kidz partake anywhere from 2-4 volunteer events a month! In fact, 2 year olds in this program have done far more in volunteer work than most adults have done in their lifetime. Jenny Lee when asked why she donates most of her proceeds from pageant fees and sale of her product said "To me ones success is not measured on how much money I make but instead it is measured in how many lives I have helped today!" The USA Bee Kidz pageant is currently also selling a stranger danger video they made in telling strangers to BUZZ OFF. Proceeds from the sale of the video goes to buying stuffed animals for abused kids. The USA Bee Kidz have also been involved in the following: 1. Raised over 453 toys for needy families 2. Held a fashion show for the USO 3. Will hold a Mad hatters tea party for kids with cancer 4. Create cookbooks to help raise money for homeless kids 5. USA Bee Kidz will create their own art masterpiece to be auctioned off where proceeds will go to buying art supplies for underprivileged kids 6. and so much more.... Too many to list here. While most kids are away on vacation this summer, the USA Bee kids have dedicated their summer into being Busy Bees! Children pageants have always received a negative image but the USA Bee Kidz beelieves in changing the stereotype and presented a new concept to children's pageant everywhere that kids do not need to wear make up or fancy outfits to be beautiful but what they need is what is in their hearts and the encouragement that this pageant represents and that is to share yourself with others who are in need, specially when it comes to spreading the message to kids by kids about living a healthier lifestyle.
